ABOUT Surge

2014 16.3h Gelding by Bernardini out of Dream Rush.

“Surge” raced 31 times, his last race being on 12/6/2019 at Turfway Park.

Adopted 2/8/2020

From Surge’s current owner: He has been in sporadic work through no fault.  Has done a couple virtual dressage shows and has school over fences up to 2’6”, but not consistently. He would need to be restarted over fences.

Nice mover, tall and elegant.  He is very nice to ride, and has a lovely canter.  He can be anxious on the ground when he is not in a regular work routine.  This always improves when we have more time to work with him.  The reason we are selling him is simply because we don’t have the time for the consistent routine he thrives in. Even if he is fidgety on the ground, as soon as you put the bit in his mouth, he’s all business and not at all difficult or silly to ride.

He was a ridgling when we adopted him from the Secretariat Center.  We had him gelded at Hagyard. Dr. Barrett did the surgery, but no testicle was found with the cryptorchid testicle.  The descended was castrated.  We do not have any mares on our farm, so I am not sure how he would do with mares.  I’ve never had him tested for testosterone since we never saw a need.  He’s been turned out both by himself and with another TB gelding.

Surge will do best with an experienced handler, not a beginner, as with most OTTB horses.  We prefer an adult or a junior who has a trainer that will test ride him.

I think Surge can go in multiple directions with a good program.  He’s pretty, he’s tall, and he looks good under saddle.  He will be a bit of a re-start, though.
